Job Title Seasonal Farm Helper Company Great Ring Farm. Website www.greatringfarm.com Great Ring Farm is a recently established small scale farm using sustainable agricultural practices, in Newtown CT. For the 2024 season we are diversifying into vegetables and vastly expanding our production area to scale to a financially viable footprint As part of our expansion, we have several big projects planned for 2024, including putting up a 1440 square foot high tunnel, opening another 1375 square feet of raised beds and putting up fencing to divide our pasture area for rotational grazing. The farm helper will, under the guidance of co-owners Chand and Roberta Ahuja, help with some of the regular farm tasks besides working on the special projects for this season. The work required will vary during the season, The work involved will range from seed starting, preparing raised beds, transplanting seedlings, fertilizing, spraying, weeding and harvesting. Duties will include sanitizing and washing buckets and changing the water of these buckets every few days to ensure that the flowers remain fresh in our cooler. The farm helper may be required to help with the other chores as needed for the chickens and goats on property (refilling feeders / waterers, cleaning the barn etc.) The worker may need to lift / carry some heavy objects such as a 50-pound bag of feed or bale of hay. We will need the farm worker to use a wheelbarrow to spread compost on our planting beds and use other tools such as shovels, rakes and digging forks, typical of farming. Our projects includes digging trenches around the production area to ensure good drainage Also, as we are making our own compost, the worker will be asked to operate a tractor with a front end loader to turn the compost piles. We will also be using a 2 wheel push tractor (BCS) with a rotary plow to make our raised beds We will train and guide the farm worker as needed but past farming/gardening experience is required. Given the construction and fencing projects, basic carpentry / construction skills are also a prerequisite. The applicant must be willing to submit references to corroborate requirements. Compensation $20 /hour depending on experience. Work hours 40 hours a week – with the exact schedule set a week in advance. Working hour will be scheduled between 7 am to 7 pm on Monday to Saturday with no work to be scheduled for Sunday.
